Happy New Year: Project Legacy Youth Share Their 2020 Resolutions

Happy New Year from Project Legacy!

At Project Legacy, we witness the transformational power of hope every single day through the hard work and determination of our young people. And although the hard work accomplished by our kids happens year-round, the beginning of a new year is symbolic for many as a new chance and opportunity to reach goals and pursue dreams.

For our young people, this is no different.

The path forward for our youth isn’t easy. But with a community like Project Legacy, we have seen many accomplish their dreams — first generation college graduates, new careers, and a better future for our young people and the generations to come.

Read the inspiring 2020 resolutions set forth by our program participants for the coming year:

  1. “Thank you to all the volunteers and donors that made Project Legacy more effective in a positive way. The donations are greatly appreciated because sometimes a little act of kindness makes the biggest difference in another person’s life, especially mine. Your grocery donations are the ones that help me a lot, and no amount of gratitude can ever be enough to say thank you. Thank you also to the volunteers that donate their time and efforts to me and others in Project Legacy and by providing guidance, advice, or passing down your experience of the world. The world can be terrifying and confusing, but I’m grateful for all the advice I’ve received to help me out of those difficult times. In 2020, some of my New Year’s Resolutions are focusing on my mental health, because I’ve had a lot more downs than ups lately, and I want to make better healthy choices by eating healthy and exercising more. I also want to fast track graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in science.” — Youth Participant

  2. “My New Years Resolutions: Try harder in school, be more confident in myself, not let my insecurities take over my mind, and try to make healthier mental choices. I also want to thank volunteers for being a light in our lives and helping us when we need it most. Just so you know you are appreciated!” — Victoria S.

  3. “Thank you so much to those who took the time to pick out specially requested items for those of us in Project Legacy. I got some sheets I really needed, as well as some gloves and a hat. I don’t think I can say thank you enough. Your truly making a difference in our lives. My New Year’s Resolution is to budget better and take a vacation somewhere I haven’t been yet!” — Mariah S.

  4. “My resolutions for this coming year is to end  the school year with good grades, travel to Sudan, and grow as a person.” — Mathani

  5. “My New Year’s Resolution is to do better in school and to have straight A’s.” —Achol

  6. “My New Year’s Resolution is to have better grades in school and work on myself more.” — Nimo

  7. “My goals this year are to save up to the point where I can get a decent car, to save money, stay in school and get good grades. I also want to meet new friends from school and Project Legacy and to stay connected and stay apart of the Project Legacy family. One of my biggest goals is to put myself in the position where I can give back to the community and help out others and the homeless. If I can find a job where I actually like to work and not just for the money, it would be a great chance for me. Another goal is to stay highly motivated with myself and not let myself down. I think that's the key to success. I won't settle for failure when success is free.” — Tay

  8. “My New Year's Resolution is to continue improving my personal health—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Because of Project Legacy, I continue to gain new tools and knowledge to better care for the most important person in my life—myself. Thank you to all of the volunteers and donors that continue to support all of us along our journey.” — Youth Participant

  9. “My New Year's Resolution is to do my laundry regularly and to put it away when it’s done.” — Youth Participant

  10. “My New Year’s Resolutions: 1) To start going to the gym even when it's not basketball season, 2) To eat healthier, 3) To surround myself with more positive people, 4) To get out of the house more and 5) To save up money this summer for basketball and stuff for next season.” — Vicky M.
